How to Install Microsoft security essential definition offline

In case when you have number of computer without internet connection and want to update essential virus and spyware definition you can download offline version from microsoft site.

• mpam-fe.exe for 32 bit operating system.
• mpam-fex64.exe for 64 bit operating system.

Another method

In case when your pc infected by virus and won't allow to install microsoft essential virus definitions. In that case we can copy update from another essential installation of same architecture.

Microsoft essential store its definition update in below locations.

For Windows xp

%Allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates

For Windows 7 and Vista

%Allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates

Copy above path and paste it in windows explorer addressbar. Double-click on folder with {Guid} name something like {A3EB313F-F9D9-442B-A191-2BA607752323}. {Guid} name can be varies for each computers. copy all files to removable storage.

Transfering defination files on the destination pc

Note: before pasting the definition files on destination pc stop the Microsoft antimalware service via services console.

1. Press Windows key + R to open Run dialog.
2. Type services.msc and press {Enter}.
3. Find Microsoft Antimalware Service in console. Right-click it and click Stop.

Open the following path in destination pc where you want to update essential definition. Double click {Guid} folder copy files from removable media and paste it here.

For Windows xp

%Allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates

For Windows 7 and Vista

%Allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Definition Updates

Open services.msc. Right click on Microsoft Antimalware Service and click Start.

Open Microsoft essential user interface click on Update tab to verify update is successfully installed.
